Fixed braces

Serving patients throughout Lewes, Ringmer and Brighton

Fixed braces have been a popular straightening teeth solution for decades because of their effective and predictable results. Whilst they are suitable for treating simple cases, for some complex orthodontic problems there’s still no competition for traditional fixed braces.

What’s involved?

With a fixed solution, our teeth straightening dentist, Adam or Susan will carefully bond brackets to your teeth, before joining them together with a wire which gradually aligns your teeth into a straighter position. You’ll need to see Adam or Susan every 6 to 8 weeks to change your wire and check on progress.

Treatment times vary depending on your individual alignment needs. For simple cases this could be just a few months, but for more complex movements, it usually takes between 12 months and two years to achieve your beautiful new smile. Adam or Susan will give you an idea of how long your teeth straightening treatment may take during your initial consultation.

Bold or discreet… your fixed braces options:

Metal braces and wires

The classic, most recognisable brace. Following recent advances in technology, our fixed metal braces at St Anne's Dental Practice now use low profile brackets and wires for added comfort.

Clear braces

Often referred to as ceramic braces, tooth coloured braces or invisible braces, our clear braces at St Anne's Dental Practice use clear brackets and tooth coloured wires for added discretion. They get the same great results as conventional metal braces – but they’re much harder to spot.

3 simple steps to a beautifully aligned smile:

  1. Consultation and planning
After an initial consultation Adam or Susan will take photos, X-rays and digital scans, or a dental impression, of your teeth. These records will take precise measurements to make your personal brackets and wires.
  2. Transformation
Once your brackets and wires are ready, Adam or Susan will fit them ensuring they are comfortable, so you can begin your straightening journey.

You’ll need to return to see Adam or Susan every 6 to 8 weeks to check on your progress and change your wire, to slowly guide your teeth into position.
  3. Retaining your new smile
Once your new smile is achieved, you’ll need to wear a retainer to ensure your teeth remain beautifully aligned. Retainers can either be removable clear trays, similar to a mouth guard, or a fixed retainer which are discreetly attached to the back of the teeth for continual support.

If you are looking for fixed braces or clear braces in Lewes, Ringmer and Brighton and want to know more about your options, get in touch to arrange a consultation at St Anne's Dental Practice.

Yes, Great and friendly welcome by Jane on reception and a very short wait to be called in by Dr Susan and Jess, as I arrived early. And I was super-pleased that I was given a longer session to undertake some necessary fillings pertinent to my trip to my implant dentist the following day. So many Thanks. But it's not just the professional and expert dentistry, its always a pleasure to see Dr Susan and her team as they make a dental trip so much more than lying back and having your cavities filled, with joyous and happy atmosphere

19th November 2025

I had to re-schedule my hygienist appointment due to having a heavy cold. This was not a problem at all. I met with Hannah for the first time. She was so friendly and called me by my first name, which I think is so much nicer than Mrs……. She explained from the off what she was doing, from checking my gums to the scaling and even the noise that the scaler made. She then asked if I would like a new treatment offered by the surgery of ‘sand blasting’ the teeth. She took her time to explain what this would entail and how I would benefit from it. All the while during the treatment she asked me if I was ok and not in any discomfort. Hannah is lovely. She is courteous, friendly and very gentle. A totally different experience to my last hygienist appointment with a different member of staff who, I’m sorry to say, was quite rough and I suffered with sore gums for the following 2 weeks. I’ve made sure that my next hygienist appointment is with Hannah. She is the best I have had.
